Rogue trader alert - Pensioner conned out of £1,250.00

Thames Valley Police is warning West Berkshire residents to be vigilant after an 87 year-old male was conned out of £1,250. During the morning of the 22nd January an offender knocked on the victims door in Argyle Road, Newbury and claimed he was a subcontractor and was there to carry out some repairs. He stated that he needed £1250 to pay for the materials and this would be reimbursed by the site manager of the home that he lived in. The victim went into town and withdrew the money before meeting up with the offender at his home address and handing over the money. The offender then left. The victim realised that he had been conned out of the money after talking to the site manager. A white Ford Transit van partial index FG56*** was seen in Argyle Road during the time of the incident and may be involved in the crime.
