Newbury Carnival 2004
04th July 2004 20.43pm

Crowds thronged Northbrook Street for this year's carnival procession. The event wouldn't win any awards for being the longest in the town's history. Just 3 floats representing 'Great sporting achievements'. As always for those participating, a lot of hard work had gone into the preparation of the floats, which featured - 'The World Cup', the 'Oxford v Cambridge Boat Race', and 'A Day at the Races'. The procession was led by the Town Crier - Brian Sylvester and the traditional fire engine.

"Use your Bike" was the theme for a collection of cyclists which included our local MP David Rendel and the newly appointed Chief Executive at Newbury Town Council, Graham Hunt.

The Metallica Twirlers provided a colourful addition to the parade, but there were no marching bands. The procession terminated in Park Way. The days entertainment then continued in Victoria Park with Bouncy Castles and other attractions. There was also a funfair in the Wharf.
