Cycling lobby wins again
27th June 2007 18.30pm

Newbury's influential cycling lobby has secured a u-turn on council plans to ban cyclists from the town centre. West Berkshire Council decided to reverse an earlier decision to ban cyclists from pedestrianised areas, and has actually pledged to make conditions easier for cycling through pedestrian areas.

It's the latest victory for cycling activists, which includes prominent councillors, and West Berkshire Spokes says it's now campaigning for contraflow cycle lanes in one way streets, such as Wharf Street and West Street. They are also calling for more public money to be spent on extra cycle racks in the Market Place.
